Periosteum

Published on Locomotor system.

When referring to bones, it is important to distinguish three levels: the actual bone, the bone marrow and the periosteum (the membrane that covers the bone).

The periosteum is the membrane or “skin” covering the bone.

When fracturing a bone, the pain we feel is in the periosteum. This is where the bone connects with the conscience, through pain. This has to do with communication.

This is where contact is made. “What I did wrong or what did I simply fail to do?”

A pain in the bones calls for immobility. I must stop and rethink my actions. A non-stopping pain leads to inactivity.

Pain is ninety per cent periostal and may, accordingly, be worked on from a psychic perspective. Ten per cent of pain is, nevertheless, truly physical, which makes it much more difficult to deal with and means that pain killers need to be used.
