Skin

All internal organs are reflected on the skin. And what happens in the skin is reflected in the internal organs. Think of shiatsu, reflexology, acupuncture, massage etc.

The skin’s main function is to ensure the person’s protection. Skin sets the limits and protects. It also allows cutaneous breathing, and, for this reason, forms part of the breathing system, because it assists the lungs in their relationship with air. It contains thousands of reserves that allow us to capture signs from the outside through emotions, touch and temperature. It sweats out and regulates temperature. Skin is responsible for making contact, it is the door to gesture, it is a sexual stimulus. The skin is multidisciplinary. It is the largest organ in the human body.

When the kidneys, liver, and also the large bowel and the lungs are trapped, skin takes over and starts releasing toxins that the organism cannot otherwise get rid off, through perspiration, smells and dermatoses. Finally, it is useful to know that the skin covering the muscles (Aponeurosis) and the skin covering the organs (Pericardium, Pleura, Peritoneum, Meninges, Epidermis) memorises experiences and emotions. For this reason, massages of the shiatsu type have such a strong effect at psychosomatic and emotional levels.

The skin may break from the inside out:abscess, boils (furuncle), infections, eruptions such as acne, seborrhea, psoriasis, eczema, hives, rash (pruritus), itching, measles, rubella, scarlet fever, scabies, chickenpox, leprosy, wart and vitiligo, herpes andperspiration,) and from the outside inwards (wound, cuts, surgery, bruises). It is always the result of an aggression.

Eruptions indicate that something has been repressed, and show us something that had been invisible up to then. Skin also has a social role.

You may want to check on Mycosis fungoides. Although it is a limphoma, it has effects on the skin.

The Dermis and the Epidermis form the skin.
