The lordosis is a prominent abdomen and inward curvature of a portion of the lumbar spine.

The outer posture of a person reflects his inner posture.

When human beings became erected and started to be biped instead of quadruped, the most fragile parts of the body became unprotected. This means human beings have a larger capacity than animals to give themselves out, to open up and to receive.

The hard vertebrae/soft disks polarity is what confers flexibility to the spine.

Telling a child “stand up right” will not solve that child’s posture. She is prostrated because she feels the world collapsing upon her. She is carrying a heavy load on her back. Understanding why the child curves down and is prostrated and talking to her about life is more important than making her walk upright.

The spine allows us to maintain an upright and firm posture. It confers verticality, balance and flexibility to human beings.

If we look carefully, we notice that the spine has a double S shape. It works in accordance with the principles of amortization. The S has two inward facing curvatures (cervical and lumbar) called the lordosis and an outward facing curvature (dorsal) called cyphosis.

The excessive bending of the lordosis curvature on the lumbar vertebrae is called lordosis. People suffering from lordosis have an extremely forward pushing belly. The weight of the family, clan, beliefs and society are all concentrated here. The taking on of the responsibility: “I am the mainstay of a clan. Others depend on me.” Lordosis reveals that this person’s home is not working properly.

The excessive outwards bending of the curvature in the dorsal area is called cyphosis. It forms a small hump and the person ends up with curved shoulders. Cyphosis reveals that the person feels the weight of the world upon his shoulders. Life is not easy for him. And then he bends down, instead of realizing that he is taking upon himself what was not meant for him. This often occurs to excessively mental oriented people who would like to change their own world at any cost but cannot do it.

In the army, where soldiers are required to have a vertical, extremely upright posture, the paradox between inner and outer posture is almost permanent. Because, at the end of the day, they are taught to be stiff and simultaneously bend down, to take orders without questioning them, in a submissive manner. It is easy to understand the confusing feelings inside their heads and bodies… Cultivating just the outer firmness is self deceiving, because the body will end up showing the person, through symptoms, the parts where he is not that righteous. Soldiers have stiff and blocked joints.

What we should cultivate is inner firmness. The spine will show it naturally.

Sick people adopt postures they would never take up on a volunteer basis. The person who goes about with a very upright head more often reveals haughtiness, pride, inaccessibility and intransigence than balance.

A too stiff spine that takes a bamboo shape (Bechterew’s disease) denotes a non-conscious huge ego and a tremendous lack of flexibility which the person will not acknowledge. With time, the spine solidifies from top down and the head leans forward. The sinuosity (the S) disappears or gets inverted. This is the body showing the person what he never wanted to see.

The hump denotes a problem similar to the excessively stiff spine. This is a non-accepted humbleness that is forced on the body.

Spina bifida can be of two types:

The first is spina bifida occulta, in which half of the vertebral arches do not develop, resulting in a split vertebra, normally occurring in one single vertebra, the fifth lumbar vertebra (L5) or in the first of the sacral vertebrae (S1). Many people are unaware they suffer from it. It is only revealed by a small depression on the area, or by an accumulation of hair in that part of the body.

The second type is cystic spina bifida, characterized by a defect in the upper part of the neural tube (where nerves pass through). In any form of spina bifida, the spinal chord is left unprotected, although the second type (cystic) is more dangerous from a medical viewpoint than the first type (occulta).

In any case, spina bifida reveals a separation between Father and Mother, either at conception stage or during pregnancy.
