Priapism

Published on Reproductive system.

Priapism is a permanent and painful erection of the penis that occurs without sexual stimulation and lasts over 4-6 hours. It occurs without sexual desire or pleasure. The self-injecting programmes for treatment of impotence turned this formerly rare condition into a relatively common occurrence.

In the beginning, this problem affected only people suffering from rare blood diseases, such as certain types of anaemia. It is almost always provoked by medication. In this case, priapism shows the body is suffering from exaggerated medication against impotence.
